Specific Items Restrictions:
To provide clarity on specific restricted items, we have compiled additional guidelines. These include:
Mobile Phones and Technical Devices with Lithium-Ion Batteries:
EuropaForwards can ship technical devices containing lithium-ion batteries with certain partners in specific countries. However, these batteries are classified as Dangerous Goods, and special declarations must be made.
In recent times, concerns have arisen regarding the safety of lithium batteries, with reports of some batteries catching fire. To mitigate these risks, new regulations have been implemented to restrict the shipment of specific types of lithium batteries classified as “Dangerous Goods.” While not all lithium batteries are affected by these regulations, it is crucial to carefully review product specifications to ensure compliance with the restrictions outlined below.
Lithium-Ion Batteries:
For lithium-ion batteries, those with a capacity exceeding 2.7 Wh but less than 100 Wh per battery and packaged with more than two batteries in a single box, or with more than eight cells per package, are subject to shipment restrictions.
Loose Lithium-Ion Batteries:
Power banks, battery packs, cell phone batteries, and laptop batteries are now classified as hazardous and regulated for shipping
Lithium-Ion Batteries with Equipment:
When shipping a laptop with a battery outside of it, it is permissible as long as the battery capacity does not exceed 100 Wh and is packaged together with the equipment.
Camera and Camera Battery:
For camera shipments, only one new battery can be included per shipment, provided it is accompanied by equipment.
Lithium-Ion Batteries Inside Equipment:
Batteries integrated within devices such as iPhones, iPads, Kindles, and Nooks are considered safe for shipping.
Lithium-Metal Batteries:
While not explicitly mentioned in the provided data, it is important to note that lithium-metal batteries, which have a different chemical composition than lithium-ion batteries, often have more stringent shipping regulations due to their higher risk of fire or explosion.
To comply with the regulations, it is crucial to note that, aside from specific shipping restrictions, a special declaration must be made, and EuropaForwards will handle this process. For more detailed information, it is advisable to refer to the guidelines provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
